Ambergris Caye is the departure point for a wonderful day adventure to the mainland of Belize.
Cave Tubing starts early as you depart Ambergris Caye via boat and head towards the mainland passing small islands and even spotting the odd Dolphin or Manatee along the way.
As you reach the mainland you enter the river mouth and enjoy a magical river adventure as you speed up the river spotting, Iguanas Crocodiles and the odd Monkey until you reach the the Belizean village of Bomba.
At Bomba you board a bus to into the mainland of Belize heading towards Caves Branch home of the underground caves that you will tube through.
On the way you stop off at the Belize Zoo, now many people say oh I dont like zoo’s and I am right with you, however Belize zoo is a different story.
It was started when a film company came to Belize and used some animals in a movie and then once the movie was completed they abandoned them with no one to take care of them.
Sharon Matola was the person that started the Belize Zoo and she took those abandoned animals and gave them a home. From that point people kept bringing her injured or abandoned animals and the Belize Zoo was formed.
What makes the Belize Zoo different from other Zoo’s is all the enclosures are cut out of the Belizean Jungle and each enclosure is a natural habitat for the creature it holds.
When you visit the Belize Zoo you will see only indiginous animals, you wont see polar bears or giraffes you will only see animals that come from Belize and the America’s.
This is an excellent chance to see animals founf in Belize such as the Jaguar, Howler Monkeys, Coati Mundis, Toucans, Parrots and much much more.
This zoo is one of the best in the world for natural habitats and care for the animals.
After your tour of the Zoo you jump back in the bus and head to Caves Branch where you have a nice Belizean lunch and then its time for the Cave Tubing adventure.
Time to get into your swim wear and grab your inner tube which is a tractor inner tube which you will use to sit on and float down the river. You will hike into the jungle for about 20 minutes to a small cliff that has an entry to the river. If your adventurous you can jump from the cliff into the clear waters of the river, alternativly you can gently get into the river if you prefere.
Then you let the gentle current take you and your inner tube on a ride down the river as you enter multiple underground caves and tube through the jungle spotting wildlife along the way. The riveractually runs through mountains and some caves are quite dark which is where you use your light provided by the tour operator.
After a exhilerating tube down the river you end up back at caves branch where you get dried off and head on abck to Ambergris Caye after a fantastic day in the mainland of Belize.
